Independent and
Unaffiliated Voters May Vote in Primary Election
Press Release: July 30, 2008Dottie Staab, candidate for
Ellis County Clerk, says that the most common complaint among voters
that are not affiliated with a political party is they are left out
of the process during the primaries. She hopes to help clear up
their confusion.
In 2004, The Kansas State Democratic Committee voted to open up
primaries to Independent voters without requiring them to change
their affiliation. If voters are registered Independent voters in
Kansas, they can advance vote or vote on August 5th in the primary.
The Republican Party requires an unaffiliated voter to change to
their affiliation from Independent to vote in their primary.
Dottie explains, "If you are unaffiliated, but registered to vote,
just request a Democratic primary ballot, and you may participate in
the primary, and continue your status as an unaffiliated voter. You
can visit my website at
www.dottiestaab.com and find your current polling location or
call me at 785 735 VOTE (8683) for any comments or questions."
Dottie says that she hopes all the citizens of Ellis County exercise
"our Nation’s most important privilege—the right to vote."
